Today we're headed out to a festival here in the mountains to celebrate some apples. So, this post is going to be a little shorter to ensure maximum time for enjoyment of the said festival. The Corn Dog seemed an obvious choice with state fairs and festivals happening around the country. After all, the corn dog originated at a state fair. Now, there is some controversy around who actually invented them to begin with, but they were invented at a state fair no less. One called them, "Pronto Dogs" and the other, "Corny Dogs". I'm going to stick with "corn dog" and to be honest I'm just glad they were invented in the first place.
Corn dogs take me back to my childhood. It's one of the foods kids love to eat next to chicken nuggets and pizza. It was also the only food I would put ketchup on besides french fries for some reason. When you're a kid you have weird eating habits. Plus, the frozen kind are easy for mom's to make. However, in order to get the real deal, you have to go to a fair or festival. Yeah, it is just a hot dog dipped in corn batter and fried, but that's what makes it so good. It's so simple, but oh so tasty. You have to get them while they're steaming hot out of the fryer to get the full experience. They're the perfect fair/festival food because you don't even have to stop walking. That is, of course, if you're capable of walking and eating at the same time. With all that combined, you have yourself a fun little meal. So this festival season maybe you should grab a Corn Dog, Corny Dog, or Pronto Dog and just chow down. And while your mind is on corn dogs check out this article from spoonuniversity.com on corn dog facts. You won't be disappointed.
P.S. to all the people who don't like fairs or festivals, I get it. But where else can you get a corn dog, funnel cake, and deep fried oreo all in one place? Don't say at my own house because that's ridiculous.
