It's pizza Friday! According to whatscookingamerica.com the word "pizza" was first documented in 997AD. How crazy is that? And, pizza was originally intended for poor Neapolitans who needed something they could eat in a hurry. Eventually, however, pizza would make its way to the states and change our lives forever.
When you're a kid, pizza is the best meal ever. You could eat it for every meal no matter what and its only competition was the chicken nugget, but let's be honest that wasn't much competition. Birthday parties were pizza parties. Sports team parties were pizza parties. Parties at school were pizza parties. What other food has gotten more love or more parties than the humble pizza? Every kid's favorite school lunch was pizza day with those rectangular slices. Even when the stuff was kind of soggy, we still ate them. Even bad pizza is good pizza.
I feel we as adults, or at least I, haven't changed much as far as my love for the almighty slice. I'm still excited for a good pizza party. I still love to order a pizza or go sit down at a great pizzeria. It's an informal food that brings everybody together. It's like the donuts your coworker brings to work. You can stand those annoying people in the break room while you eat a slice because in that moment nothing else matters it's so good. As an adult now I get the joy of making pizza myself. When I don't feel like making a full on dinner I'll make a pizza on some naan bread. It's so quick and easy and it's actually pretty fun. You basically assemble it the same way you would make any pizza. You spread out some sauce, layer on some cheese, throw some toppings on it, and bake it in the oven. Now, this isn't traditional, but pizza is pizza so cut me some slack. You have the freedom to put whatever you want on top of it too. You can even make it a dessert pizza. So yeah, pizza is pretty awesome and versatile and it makes us all happy. So, if you've never made your own pizza before go give it shot. It's fun and easy. Even if it doesn't turn out how you want it to, just remember even bad pizza is good pizza.
P.S. I know there is currently a lot of controversy around pineapple on pizza. I personally don't mind it. Yeah, I said it. So what? It's my pizza.
