So tonight is the official start of the college football season. It's an exciting time if you've been anticipating the start since January. It's also an exciting time for sports anyway with the NFL about to start, Major League Baseball is getting close to the post season, The NHL is about to start up, and so is the NBA if you're into that sort of thing. This maybe the most wonderful time of year if you're a sports fan in America. With all this happening it only made sense to do a post on sports. I've always been involved in sports. Whether as a fan or a player, it's always been apart of my life. Growing up and, especially into high school, my life revolved around a sport. All year long there was something going on and I loved every second of it. There are still times where I think about those days and wish I could still be playing, but life goes on and you make different decisions.
Now it's fun to be a fan and nothing is better than being at a game and experiencing the crowd and the excitement of it all. Unless of course, it's like 10° outside and then it has to be a really meaningful game. Sports are fun to watch on tv, but there's something to be said for actually being there and getting to tell everyone how you got to experience such a big event. It's something I always enjoy doing. Now I love sports, but sometimes it really makes you think about life. We, as fans, get so worked up over watching a bunch of adult men or women play a child's game. And on top of all of that, they are sometimes getting paid millions of dollars to do so. Which when you think about it is really crazy. We go nuts when they win and are so angry when they lose. Yet, it's all just a game. Sometimes I have to remind myself of that and at the end of the day, it doesn't really matter. But, it's also fun to watch people compete at a high level and do things a huge majority of us could never do and I guess that's what makes it special. Plus it's fun to brag to your friends about how your team is better than theirs or to just cheer on the same team and enjoy that experience together. Teams can bring whole cities together. Just look at Chicago after the Cubs won the World Series or how the Yankees and Red Sox helped their cities cope with unimaginable attacks. Sports and teams bring people together. I think that's what makes them so great and why I and many others love them so much. If you have a team to root for, then go all out. If you don't have a team to root for then go find one. And if you're not into sports well that's ok too. There are still a lot of things out there to be passionate about.
P.S. As a St. Louis Cardinals fan, I in no way endorse the Cubs. They just made a good point for this post.
