It's a rainy day here in the mountains so it's made for a slower than normal day. Rain is one of those things we have to live with as humans. Some times I really don't mind the rain because it brings its own certain beauty. One of the things I love about the rain is how beautiful it can make the sky. Being in the mountains has its benefits especially when you're able to watch the rain clouds roll in from up high. If I can make it up to the Blue Ridge Parkway, the clouds seem to dance in front of me. I look out across the vastness of the mountains and watch as the light slowly changes. It goes from bright hues to deep blues and grays. The mountains almost seem to become more in focus and for a moment I'm struck by their greatness all over again. The air gets cooler and I can feel the breeze pushing the clouds toward me. And then the sprinkles start and before I know it, I'm engulfed in a rain storm. It makes for some amazing photos, but sometimes it's better to just sit back and watch it with your own eyes. I think maybe we would appreciate the rain more if we were able to see it roll in. Maybe if we could feel the breeze and the beauty of it all, we could enjoy the rain. I'm telling you it's one of my favorite things in life.
Yes, the rain isn't always so great. It messes with our plans or causes the devastating flooding we are seeing now. It can be immensely powerful and change our lives in ways we never imagined. It can wreck our homes and our material things. It can hurt us and even kill us. But, it can also bring new life. It provides us with water to sustain that life. It helps the food we need to grow and washes away the toxic parts of life we selfishly create. Even though there are days where we can't see past the rain, or days when we can't see the beauty in it, the good news is the sun will be back. Maybe not right when we want it to be, but it will shine again. As for rainy days though, try to find the beauty in what we some times see as an inconvenience.
