Yesterday was a lazy Sunday, hence the no post. It was basically the start of the NFL season and well, beer and football go together like peanut butter and jelly. So, I enjoyed a nice beer and some football. It was the perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
According to a particular beer fact on this Thrillist post, and livescience.com, people were drinking beer 5,000 years ago. WHAT!? Brewing was even mentioned in the epic Gilgamesh between 2500 - 3500 B.C. What that tells me is, we've had a long time to perfect the art of brewing. I'm not a beer snob by any stretch, I just happen to like the libation. And, it just so happens I live in a great part of the country where we are surrounded by it. There are 26 breweries in our city and 60 in the region alone. There definitely won't be a shortage anytime soon. Around here you've got your casual beer drinkers (me) and you have your ultra fanatics. You definitely know the ultra fanatics because they like to drink the craziest things. It seems the crazier or most bitter beer is the best to them. To each his own I guess. Myself, on the other hand, I enjoy whatever tastes good. Which brings me to a point I would like to make. Drink what you like not what makes you seem cool. No body really cares what you're having and if they do, who cares they are just weird people anyway. That goes for anything really. If you like light beer, then drink light beer. If you like sweet wine, then drink sweet wine. If you like mustard on your pizza, then put mustard on your pizza. I think one of our biggest faults we have as humans is caring about what other people think of us. I'm way guilty of that. As Eleanor Roosevelt said, "You wouldn't worry so much about what others think of you if you realized how seldom they do."
Wait, wait, wait, I thought this was about beer? Yeah, it still is. Beer just reminded me of that "trying to be cool mentality". Anway, I think it's pretty cool there has been this craft beer revolution in the U.S. Every where you go there is a new brewery popping up. I think it just shows the creativity in people. Yeah, some places may not have the best beer in the world, but they are putting themselves out there, and I bet they are having fun doing it. I know for sure brewing isn't in the cards for me. I got a home brewing kit at a Dirty Santa Party last year and it was a flop. Way to much work for me. I'm going to leave it up to the professionals and pay to have it made already. Which brings me to my last point. Support those local breweries and other establishments around you. They are trying to make your community a better place. Plus, they provide some pretty tasty beer.
P.S. To all you people who make fun of what other people drink – get a life. Oh and drink responsibly.
