Oh who doesn't love a good pun, especially when it's donut related? Donuts have an interesting past, like all foods it seems. Fun Fact – they supposedly came to the U.S. by way of the Dutch and were originally called olykoeks - "oily cakes". Doesn't really sound appetizing to me, but thankfully doughnut or donut has became the more common name. I figured I'd save you the history of the donut for now and let you read it for yourself. Just like ice cream it's hard to eat a donut without smiling. I mean have you ever seen a sad person eat a donut? They come in all flavors for all types of people. There are maple bacon flavored donuts, lavender donuts, original glazed, the cake variety, and basically whatever enters your head there's probably a donut for that. You can eat them with your ice cream, you can dunk them in your coffee, you can even make them into a wedding cake. The possibilities are virtually endless, within reason of course. They bring people together like ice cream. A friend and I used to share a dozen donuts between the two of us. It's the type of food that helps you tolerate that coworker you can't stand in the break room when someone stops for donuts just before work. Of course the feeling is gone after the donut is, but hey you got a donut for free. Which makes me think, maybe people should start bringing donuts to the table more often. The world might be a better place if we started the tough negotiations with a fried ring of dough. After all, have you ever seen a sad person eat a donut? So whether you spell it donut or doughnut, I think we could all just get along if we ate one.
P.S. I apologize to the actual gluten intolerant people out there for talking about fried dough for an entire post. However, I donut apologize to the gluten free bunch who don't actually have a real gluten intolerance. You people will survive after all.
