It's Bacon! Yes, nature's candy is the post of the day and what a great day it is. According to bacontoday.com, the average American eats 17.9 pounds of bacon a year! That's a lot of bacon, but some how maybe not enough. There is also a "Patron Saint of Bacon" which is quite funny. Those are just 2 of the 17 facts about bacon you can find on their site. Definitely an interesting read.
Bacon always reminds me of my grandmother. Maybe that's a weird statement to make, but she used to always make me breakfast when I went there. It didn't matter if it was the morning or not. Which, by the way, reminds me that breakfast is always a great choice for dinner. If you're a breakfast purist and only eat it in the morning, I don't want to hear it. But anyway she always had bacon because she knew I loved the stuff. It was always the good kind too. Not the thin fatty stuff that came in a package, but the kind her and my grandfather had to drive an hour to some random place to get. It was thick and oh so good and definitely worth the drive. I will always remember those moments of having breakfast at their house and the bacon she always made for me. Bacon is memories for sure.
Now I love bacon because it's great on just about anything. I say "just about anything" because of the time we tried to make candied bacon ice cream. It was not what we expected and we should have just made ice cream and eaten it with the bacon separately. It is however so good on everything else like a burger, a donut, in bourbon, on your pizza, and so many more things. Without bacon, a BLT would just be a really lame sandwich and what would a club sandwich be without some cured pork? There probably wouldn't even be a club for it anymore. Seriously though bacon is one of the great enjoyments in life that can brighten up any day. There's nothing like the sizzle and pop and smell of some bacon frying away in a pan. Even people on diets can't resist the taste of some good crispy bacon. It is protein, after all. So maybe it's time to fry up some bacon and put a smile on your face.
P.S. sorry to the vegetarians out there who are truly missing out on one of God's great masterpieces.
